Crafting high-design books gives me the greatest personal satisfaction. Every page spread is carefully arranged to show off the photos and images to best advantage, yet still maintain a sense of continuity for the reader. I always start by doing some research and experimenting with initial ideas, reworking to get it right. Then I get to use all the skills I've learned with blending images, fonts, colors and styles to create an overall sympathetic and cohesive design. And every book I work with teaches me something new.
Send us your book's text in editable format (MS Word) and any other material like illustrations
or photos in source format (RAW, Photoshop, Illustrator) wherever possible.
Provide any styling input you want to give our designers. This might be an extract
from a book you like or a description of the look and feel you want for your material.
Either show us your existing book cover or see our cover design service page. A cover really sets the tone for a book so it must be created first.
The size of the paper pages in your book. Most book printers offer a range of standard
trim sizes. Please provide your choice so we can layout your page correctly.
Tell us how your pages will be held together — paperback or hardback, sewn
or glued. We will then ensure the design includes adequate binding margin.
Warn us if there are any design considerations here. Most high design books are
in full CMYK color but if you have any limitations such as two-color printing, allowable
ink coverage or a maximum number of color pages then let us know before we get started.

identify your book for distribution.
We need to know your choice of printer in order to produce your final book PDF correctly
for their machines (crop marks, spreads, bleed, ink saturation).
Tell us anything else we need to know before we get started. For example maybe you
want to aim at a fixed page count or avoid any blank pages in the design.

a final book file to all the requirements of your chosen printer (spreads, ink saturation,

The work required depends on the length and complexity of your book. We will therefore
need to review your files before we can issue your quotation. Read more about
receiving your quotation
This timescale is an estimate. The time required to complete your particular job
will be in your quotation. This does not include time you'll need to review
files or request changes. For tight deadlines we provide an
subject to availability.
If your book contains images you may want to consider how these are to be sourced, see sourcing images for books
for further details. Where you ask us to source images for your design, these will have a stock license for printing 500,000 copies of your book. However, under the terms of the license we cannot send you source jpg image files for you to use for other purposes as this is considered 'reselling'. In this case you will need to purchase the image and license it directly.
We return to you a PDF prepared to all the specifications of your chosen printer
(spreads, ink saturation, transparency flattening, font embedding, bleed, crop marks).
Each file is checked against the latest verification standards.
We initially provide a styling sample — changes will be made to this until
you are entirely happy. Next, we send the whole book as a watermarked PDF —
a single set of changes to this are included before we return your final file. Read
